How to Add a Video to Google Slides [2023]

When you are presenting a complex topic with Google Slides, adding a video to your presentation can take it to the next level… but many folks still don’t know how to add a video to Google Slides. In this guide, we will show you how to add a video in Google Slides in three different ways. By the end of the article, you will also learn how to make simple edits to your videos in Google Slides. Adding a Video to Google Slides from YouTube

In this method, you can directly search for YouTube videos in your slides and embed them in your presentation.

Step 1: Open your presentation, and go to the Insert menu. You have options to add images, text, audio, and video here. We will select the Video option.

Step 2: A pop-up window called Insert video will appear. You will see two tabs on the Window. Select the first tab called YouTube.

Step 3: Use the search box to search for any video you want. For example, we have searched for a video related to Google Slides.

Step 4: A list of videos will appear on the window. From there, select the video you want to add to your presentation. Then, click Insert and the video will be added to your presentation.

Step 5: Once the video appears on your slide, you can resize it or format the playback options according to your needs. We will get to that in a bit.

This method is slightly similar to the previous one, but it’s useful when you have the URL of the desired video. Let’s see how you can do it.

Step 1: Open your presentation and click Insert. From the menu, select Video.

Step 2: Once the Insert Video window pops up, you’ll need to click the search box and paste the URL of the video. A preview of the video will appear below.

Step 3: Select your video and click Insert. Your video will be added to the selected slide.

Step 4: After adding your video, you can resize or edit your video and format the playback options from the right sidebar.

Uploading Videos to Google Slides from Your Computer

Unfortunately, there is no option in Google Slides to add videos from your computer directly. You’ll need to upload your video to your Google Drive first. Then, you can add your video to Google Slides from Google Drive. If you don’t know how to upload a video to Google Drive, check our guide. For now, we will focus on how you can add videos to presentations from Google Drive.

Step 1: Open a presentation and select the desired slide. Then, go to the Insert menu and select Video.

Step 2: On the pop-up window, you’ll need to select the Google Drive tab on the right. Your Google Drive folders will show up there.

Step 3: Browse your Google Drive and open the folder that contains your desired video. Then, click on the video to select it and click Insert.

Step 4: Your video will now be added to your selected slide. You will have resizing options here. 

How to Resize and Edit Videos in Google Slides

Once you are done adding videos to your presentation, you might need to format them. Follow these steps to resize and edit your videos.

Step 1: Click on your video and blue rectangular points will appear around the video. You can click and drag these points to increase or decrease the size of the video.

Step 2: When your video is selected, you will have a sidebar on the right with different format options. From there, click on the first tab called Video playback. You can select from multiple playback options. Plus, it has video trimming options where you can define the starting and ending times of the video. A Mute audio option is also available.

Step 3: Under the Size & Rotation tab, you can select the desired width and height of the video. You can also lock the aspect ratio from here.

Step 5: If you tick the Drop shadow checkbox, you can adjust the color, opacity, angle, distance, and blur radius of the drop shadow.
